Monday Notes

A few notes to cool off with as it’s hot and humid out in upstate New York (more reason to make me wish fall was coming):

-Over the weekend CapGeek reported another Devil signing…this time it’s forward Tim Sestito agreeing to a 1 year 2 way deal. The Devils-Phantoms series just got a lot more interesting with both Tim and his brother Tom re-signing (in Tom’s case with the Flyers).

-Despite the NBA lockout, still looks like an early August release date for the AHL schedule. We may know the opponent setup by possibly the end of this week.

-Today starts New Jersey’s development camp in Newark. A total of 43 players will be hitting the ice (per The Star-Ledger):

Goalies:
Jeff Frazee (31)
Keith Kinkaid (50)
Scott Wedgewood (60)
Maxime Clermont (70)

Defensemen:
Matt Taormina (20)
Alexander Urbom (22)
Seth Helgeson (33)
Mark Fayne (34)

Corbin McPherson (40)
Harry Young (41)
Eric Gelinas (42)
Daniel New (43)

Jacob Josefson (16)
David Wohlberg (55)
Blake Coleman (58)
Brett Leonard (59)
Kelly Zajac (61)

Left Wings:
Blake Pietila (49)
Justin Barnett (51)
Reid Boucher (52)
Peter McMullen (53)
Joseph Whitney (54)
Mike Hoeffel (57)
Kory Nagy (64)
Derek Rodwell (65)
J.S. Berube (66)

Right Wings:
Mattias Tedenby (21)
Nick Palmieri (32)
Brian Haczyk (39)
Mike Sislo (62)
Rem Vanderbeek (63)
Thomas Nesbitt (67)
Darcy Zajac (72)
(note: uniform # in parentheses)

Even though on the list, Tedenby will not make the camp this week due to visa issues. Here’s a breakdown of the list:

-17 players on this list spent at least some time in Albany during the season, with 8 of those recalled to New Jersey.

-5 out of 6 members of the 2011 draft class, including first rounder Larsson, are in attendance.

-There are a few family ties on the list. You may have noticed that there is yet another Zajac on the way up. Kelly joins Travis and Darcy as the 3rd Zajac brother (a 4th brother, Nolan, is about to start his collegiate career at the University of Denver; he should be here in 3 or 4 years) to wear a Devil uniform. He just completed his junior season at Union College (teammate of new Devils signee Keith Kinkaid). Rem Vanderbeek is the son of Devils chairman/managing partner Jeff Vanderbeek. He is about to start his junior season at Providence. Peter McMullen Jr.’s father Peter Sr. is the Devils executive vice president, while grandfather John is the former owner of the Devils. He went undrafted and is off to Boston College in the fall.
