Since it’s only been, oh, 15 days since I last posted on here, maybe an update of things is in order…
-The biggest news of the week? New ownership at the top! Yesterday New Jersey held a press conference to officially introduce the new ownership group, lead by Joshua Harris and David Blitzer, who also own the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers (yes, I am sure this news went over well in the City of Brotherly Love). Previous owner Jeff Vanderbeek is staying on as a senior advisor, but otherwise no changes on the hockey side of things. Does this mean anything for Albany, since New Jersey does own the team? Nothing has been said as of yet, so everything may just remain, as Lou likes to say, “status quo.”
-The last of the Albany restricted free agents has finally signed on the dotted line, as defenseman Dan Kelly signed an AHL deal. There are still quite a few key members of last season’s Devils (names like Jeff Frazee and Corbin McPherson come to mind) looking for a team to call home in 2013-14, with NHL camps about a month away from opening.
-And finally, maybe next week there might actually be a schedule to go over. Stay tuned…
