Week 5 Primer

Albany Quick Hits:

-The Devils start the week at 6-1-1-1, good for 14 points and first place in the Northeast Division (and first place in the Eastern Conference).

-A little roster shuffling since Sunday night, even after the signing of Mark Fraser to a PTO:

Reid Boucher was returned to Albany late Sunday evening…and Steve Bernier was recalled on Monday to take his place.  He played in Tuesday night’s matchup against St. Louis, reunited with his old CBGB linemate Stephen Gionta.

And a shakeup between the pipes, as Scott Clemmensen and Keith Kinkaid have switched places, becoming official on Tuesday after Clemmensen cleared waivers.  With New Jersey about to start a 7 game in 11 day stretch, there may be a chance that Kinkaid may get his first NHL start at some point.

Speaking of goalies…Maxime Clermont finally has a home, as he was reassigned to ECHL Orlando on Tuesday.

11/5, Game #10 at Hartford

Where: XL Center, Hartford, CT.

When: 11:00 AM.

Season Series: Albany leads 2-0.

Standings:

Hartford: 6-2-1-0, 13 points, 2nd place in Northeast Division

Wolfpack Leading Scorers/Goaltending:

Mat Bodie, 8 points (1 G, 7 A); 4 tied with 7 points

Mackenzie Skapski, 2-0-0, 0.94 GAA; Cedrick Desjardins, 3-0-0, 2.55 GAA; Jason Missiaen, 1-2-1, 3.78 GAA

Notes:

-The Wolfpack is coming off a weekend sweep, defeating Lehigh Valley in Allentown on Saturday evening, then a quick turnaround at home against Worcester the next afternoon.  Hartford survived a late rally from the Sharks to pick up the win.

-Hartford is down to 6 defensemen thanks to injuries up top with the parent Rangers, losing Dylan McIlraith and Conor Allen to recalls earlier in the week.

-This will be the only morning/school day game the Devils will have on the schedule.  In their lone morning game last season, Keith Kinkaid shut out the Sound Tigers 3-0 in Bridgeport on December 10, 2013.

-Missed local tie: former Union College defenseman Mat Bodie currently leads the team in scoring.

11/8 & 11/9, Games #11 & #12 at Bridgeport

Where: Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport, CT.

When: 7:00 PM 11/8, 3:00 PM 11/9

Season Series: Bridgeport leads 2-1.

Standings:

Bridgeport: 5-3-0-1, 11 points, 3rd place in Northeast Division

Sound Tigers Leading Scorers/Goaltending:

Harry Zolnierczyk, 9 points (3 G, 6 A); 2 tied with 8 points

Kevin Poulin, 3-1-1, 2.30 GAA; David Leggio, 2-2-0, 3.27 GAA

Notes:

-The Sound Tigers seem to be the only team that has figured out Albany so far…both Devil losses are against Bridgeport.

-After handing the Devils their first regulation loss on Saturday, Bridgeport returned home Sunday and lost to Springfield.  They take on Norfolk Wednesday morning in their own school day game before hosting Albany for the weekend.

-Bridgeport goaltender David Leggio got a little attention earlier this week for the old throw-the-net-off-the-moorings-to-prevent-a-2-on-0 trick.  He can list that on his resume under doing a dead on Pierre McGuire impression.
